Effect of hydrogen ion concentration on lactate dehydrogenase (LD) assays.

چکیده
Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) contained recommendations for names and symbols for quantities in chemistry and physics (1). The recommendation concerning the writing of the name (symbol) of a given chemical quantity was exemplified as follows: V(K2S04, 0.1 mol dm3 in H2O, 25#{176}C) = 48 cm3 mol-'. It was up to the reader to interpret this as the molar volume of potassium sulfate in a solution of potassium sulfate in water with a substance concentration of potassium sul-fate in the solution of 0.1 moles per cubic decimeter and a temperature of the solution of 25#{176}C. It is not very clear that V here means molar volume, especially since the same manual previously symbolized the molar volume by Vm. It is also not clear whether 0.1 mol dm' refers to the substance concentration or perhaps the amount of substance of K2S04 divided by the volume of H2O. Analyzing the names of different quantities, we find that it is always possible to express the name according to the general scheme: The Z of B in S (in T), where Z symbolizes the " kind of quantity, " B the component, S the system, and T a superior system comprising S. In several cases B comprises the whole system, i.e., B = S. The present suggestion is that the symbol of the quantity be written ZB(S(T)); i.e., the name of the quantity may be read directly by translating the symbols in the same sequence as they are written. In the IUPAC manual, symbols for a large number of different kinds of quantities were recommended, and these recommendations were adopted by the International Federation for Clinical Chemistry (2). The symbols should be single letters eventually with a sub-script or superscript, and they should always be printed in italic (sloping) type. Because there are several hundred different kinds of quantities, each kind unfortunately can not have its own unambiguous symbol. Some clinically important kinds of quantities and their symbols are given in Table 1. The mains unchanged. In order to avoid difficulties for other investigators, we kindly ask you to draw the attention of your readers to this point. While I would liefer discourse on the cultural variations in nursery rhymes as exemplified by that quoted by John H. Felts in his book review [CLIN CHEM. amplification should be made here. Only extension is suggested, not contradiction , because the statements recorded are …

Ten electrophoretic methods compared with a selected method for quantifying lactate dehydrogenase isoenzymes in serum.
Using the Selected Method of McKenzie and Henderson (Selected Methods Clin Chem 1983;10:59-67) as a reference method, we compared the performance of 10 commercially available methods for determination of lactate dehydrogenase (LD, EC 1.1.1.27) isoenzymes. Results were expressed as percentage of total LD activity, as determined with two different types of densitometers shown to have an average d...
متن کاملHow accurate are lactate dehydrogenase isoenzyme estimations by the thin-layer agarose fluorescent technique?
We offer an assessment of the accuracy of the thin-layer agarose fluorescent technique of Elevitch et al. [Am. J. Clin. Pathol. 46, 692 (1966)]. We used semi-purified human lactate dehydrogenase isoenzymes 1 and 5. Both the lactate lead to pyruvate and pyruvate lead to lactate assays [Clin. Chem. 20, 1462 (1974)] appear to give, within the errors of the techniques used, a substantially unbiased...

Background & Objective: The silver nanoparticles are important in many applications of nanoparticles on human health . The toxicity of silver nanoparticles are not well documented yet. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of silver nanoparticles on lactate dehydrogenase activity and histological changes in heart tissue. Materials &Methods: In this study, 40 adult male wistar ra...
متن کاملIncreased lactate dehydrogenase in serum in measles infection.
We determined lactate dehydrogenase (LD; EC 1.1.1.27) in serum from 75 sequential measles patients and 105 control patients. In the measles patients, LD was increased to 1147.9 +/- 43.8 (mean +/- SE) U/L, markedly more than in the control group (517.2 +/- 15.0 U/L, p less than 0.001). Both LD-3 and LD-4 isoenzymes were increased, but the concentration of LD-5 was normal. Patients with high LD v...
متن کاملLactate dehydrogenase inhibition by immunoglobulin G in human serum.
Low lactate dehydrogenase (LD; EC 1.1.1.27) activity and an abnormal LD pattern in electrophoretograms of LD isoenzymes in the sera of two patients were caused by inhibition of LD by immunoglobulin G. One of these showed inhibitor activity in the serum upon direct analysis, while the other showed activity only after the immunoglobulin was stripped from the LD. As judged from the LD isoenzyme pa...
